Read about this
place in a local magazine and we set off last Sunday to Huairou District,
Jiaojiehe village, approximately 80 km from beijing city in search of this
building. Got lost along the way as it is not clearly on the map however after 2
hours drive, some wrong turns, ask some villager along the way, we finally
manage to arrive before the sun goes down. Roll out the picnic mat and we enjoy
a short afternoon of coffee and biscuit with Leng, my wife and my 2 nieces. Did
a quite sketch with a foutain pen. It just amazing that the architect, Li
XiaoDong actually uses local materials from nearby villages and the surroundings
are kepy intact as it was before. The trees, plants and flower are just starting
to grow after the long winter. I plan to visit this place again in late autumn
to enjoy the change of color in the surrounding landscape. Check out

Trendy Cafe 'Sculpturing in Time'
JiangTai road, beijing. http://www.sitcoffee.com/
The first cafe opened on 28th Nov. 1997 in a small space in a hutong (back lane)
along ChengFu road near the Beijing University. It use to be a place where the
students will meet up and have cheap affordable coffee and tea and after school
social life. Now it has becomes a fully equipped cafe with free Wi-Fi, 'Illy'
coffee, many choice of wines, tea, desserts and various types of western
food.
The sketch I drew was the main dining area on a sunday afternoon. It was a
great day with clear cloudless blue sky after a week long of terrible dusty
winds. Lots of people was sitting near the large windows at the entrance way
enjoying the sun shining into the cafe. I did another quick sketch of a couple
quiety seated on a high bench with the guy busy with his laptop and his girl
friend browsing through the cafe magazines collection.

Maan Coffee

New cafe by the Lido Park, across the Rosedale Hotel along JiangTai Xi Lu called Maan Coffee. Served mainly sandwiches, different types of toasts and waffles. During week day, this place is pack with people from the nearby offices. With coffee at RMB 15 which also comes with free butter toast snack, it is always crowded on weekends. Beautiful decor, lots of natural lights, garden view and free wifi, this place is definitely will be one of my favorite.
